What We Do

In 2001, Georgia Tech was one of nine institutions to receive a National Science Foundation (NSF) Institutional Transformation Award to establish the ADVANCE Professors Program, dedicated to developing systemic and institutional approaches that increase the representation and participation of women and minorities in academic STEM careers. This grant funded the program until 2008, when it became an official program at Georgia Tech, supported by Institute Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Through the ADVANCE Professors Program, Georgia Tech works to achieve its mission by:

  • Advocating for diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Advising campus leadership on policy and structures
  • Making data-driven recommendations for faculty retention, advancement, and satisfaction

ADVANCE Initiatives

Tenure Process

Tenure Process workshops are tailored to provide insight into how an individual's circumstances can impact processes related to tenure and are available for free for all tenure-track faculty members.

Equity, Diversity, and Excellence Initiative

EDEI focuses on four areas to help foster a diverse pool of talent, create an inclusive and equitable work climate, and support the career growth of existing women and minority faculty at all levels.

Resources for Faculty

Exercises, articles, recommended reading, and other resources for issues of bias awareness, mentoring, hiring and retention, promotion and tenure, and assessment and evaluation.
