About the Diversity Programs

 

Diversity Programs is responsible for fostering a vision of diversity appreciation reflective of the Institute's strategic plan, which enables students from all backgrounds and cultures to thrive and succeed at Tech. The Office provides an institutionalized approach for meeting the co-curricular needs of students by coordinating and planning educational opportunities that enhance interaction and learning across groups. Through intentional programming and training, the Office assists the campus in understanding, appreciating and celebrating Tech's rich cultural diversity.

Diversity Programs will provide leadership in advocacy, education, and outreach regarding diversity on campus and throughout the surrounding community by accomplishing the following goals:

 

Advocacy:

Diversity Programs will provide leadership in Advocacy on campus and throughout the surrounding community by accomplishing the following goals:

  • Serve as an initial point of contact for underrepresented student groups and populations with special needs

  • Serve as a bridge for organizations representing diverse populations to the Student Government Association, faculty, and administration

    • Work with major student groups such as the Student Government Association and the Homecoming Committee to encourage diversity of leadership, membership, and participation

    • Assist the Dean of Students in serving as an advocate for underrepresented student issues on campus

  •  

    Education:

    Diversity Programs will provide leadership in Education on campus and throughout the surrounding community by accomplishing the following goals:

  • Work with student organizations to plan and implement diverse programs

  • Provide training for a team of staff, faculty, and student leaders including peer leaders and community advisors, FASET, Connect With Tech, Student Government Association, Interfraternity Council, Pan-Hellenic and Panhellenic Councils to prepare them for working with diverse populations

  • Coordinate "town hall meetings" around pertinent current issues of diverse populations

  • Establish a resource center for students, faculty, and staff that will provide information about various cultures, upcoming events, community agencies, and programming ideas

     

    Outreach:

  • Provide advisement to the Diversity Forum

  • Work collaboratively with OMED and other units to assess the needs of underrepresented populations and establish appropriate delivery systems

  • Assist with major campus activities that shape the culture of the campus such as FASET Orientation and GT 1000Work with student representatives and faculty advisors to student organizations that actively seek work on diversity initiatives

  • Serve as a resource for faculty and staff regarding issues of diversity appreciation and prejudice reduction

  • Serve as a liaison to the Atlanta community regarding diversity
